Welcome to my blog, where I will share what inpires me, my creative process and methods.
My name is Andrew Lucas, I am a watercolour artist living in Torquay, England, where I have been located for a number of years now. I have been creating drawings and paintings for many years, and in some respects my whole life.
I was born and grew up in Salisbury, England, a City full of medieval architecture. As you can imagine, this had a big influence on me growing up, and shaped my love of architecture as well as rural spaces. Painting is my real passion, a passion that only grows over time. I have always enjoyed sharing my work in the hope that the wider audience will gain something back from it. I have been fortunate enough to have held several solo exhibitions over the years which I have always enjoyed.
And so I have decided to start this blog, in an attempt to share my journey through art, the good, the bad and at times the ugly. I hope to share insights of my creative process and what makes me tick as an artist, in the hope you will find an interest in the " behind the scenes " of my artistry.
The challenge for watercolour artists.
As a watercolour artist, I find that you are never in true control of this medium, and that is part of the challenge that it presents. It is very much in the moment, and no possibility of going back over what has already been laid down. I chose watercolour due to this quality, and that it is for me the most expressive medium.
Being an artist can be a solitary activity, which for me goes with the creative process as I am sure every artist will experience this. But the rewards in public can be immense for the hard and solitary work that an artist puts in.
I hope that you will find this blog informative, interesting and true to who I am as an artist. I look forward to sharing more experiences and work with you. Feel free to leave a comment below or any questions that may arise, I really look forward to our interactions through art. Best wishes.
